Research

During the past few decades, many research studies have been done to prove the benefits of having regular Reflexology treatments for various health conditions. In almost all of them, their findings prove that having regular Reflexology treatments for various illnesses is highly beneficial. Below are findings of some of the most recent studies:

A study done in Asia in 2017 investigated the effect of Reflexology on chemotherapy-induced vomiting, nausea and fatigue on breast cancer patients. The study found that regular Reflexology treatments decreased the experience, development, distress of nausea, vomiting, and retching as well as fatigue in the cancer patients.

A study done in Brazil in 2015 found that Reflexology had a beneficial effect on feet impairment of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

A very interesting article collating various studies done, during the past 20 years, on people who had Reflexology for the following health conditions: Anxiety; Cancer, Cardiovascular Conditions; Type 2 Diabetes; Migraines/tension headaches; Multiple Sclerosis; Pediatric conditions; Physiological Research; Post-operative Symptoms and Sinusitis. https://www.takingcharge.csh.umn.edu/explore-healing-practices/reflexology/what-does-research-say-about-refloxology

In 2013 a study was done to investigate the efficacy of Reflexology for pain control. The study found that that reflexology produces antinociceptive effects (inhibits the sensation of pain) and suggested the possibility that reflexology may be useful on its own or as an adjunct to medication in the treatment of pain conditions in man.

A very important study, done by Michigan State University in 2012, found that reflexology helped ease some side effects from chemotherapy and hormonal therapy treatments in women being treated for metastatic breast cancer. Subsequently, Reflexology treatments are part of the services offered to oncology patients at the Dana-Faber Cancer Institute, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.

A study done by nurses and midwives in Iran (2010) found that labour pain in primiparous (giving birth for the first time) women, was significantly reduced with Reflexology treatments given during labour.

From these excerpts, it’s clear to see that Therapeutic Reflexology is a highly beneficial therapy to have if you are suffering from any form of illness or health condition. It’s particularly encouraging to read the findings on the benefits of Reflexology for cancer patients.
